Comillas and Tortillas Españolas

Comillas. Was. Beautiful. The beach was lovely and quaint, the town was amazing with it's cobbled streets and flowered balconies, and so much history. There was so much history, I could feel it in the air. I went and saw Gaudi's El Capricho, The Palace of Sobrellano, walked the beach, studied people. It was beautiful. My host family has a small apartment overlooking the ocean and it's beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed my time. I only spent two days there, and one night, but it will definitely be a place I want to go see again. IN case you were wondering, the following two pictures were the view from the outside balcony... Yeah, your face is turning green with envy. Go there! It's worth it! But not in the summer because, according to my host mom, all the Richy-Riches from Madrid and southern Spain come and the beach is... Packed. And it's actually a pretty small beach. Apparently in the summer there's so many people there isn't even parking available at any of the beaches. The north of Spain is the place to be.

 Here are some other pictures.

While in Comillas, my host mom also taught me how to make tortillas Españolas. Delicious. And before you say you know what it is, I'm going to tell you that unless you've been here, you probably don't. When you think of "tortilla" you think of the white flour thing your delicious Chipotle burrito insides holds (Oh man, have I been wanting Chipotle... Anybody wanna ship some? Haha. Express?). Wrong. Here it's completely different. They fry potatoes. A lot of potatoes. Then they strain them, let them sit then whip up a couple of eggs. Then they mix the eggs and the potatoes and then they heat oil up until it's really hot. Then they pour the mixture in and wait, then use a plate and flip it over, then keep doing that until it's done. It's like an omelette on speed. It's amazing. But here it's not breakfast, it's for Comida (lunch or their main meal) or even Cena (a small portion of food at the very end of the day). But never for breakfast. In Spain? We have cookies and Nesquik for breakfast. Yeah, that's what's up.
