Santander

I know it's been a couple of days but I feel that is acceptable since I am simply on an adventure and I am publishing when I have a free moment. Lately I haven't had one. The day I arrived in Santander, Spain I slept. I got off the bus at 8:15 pm which in the world of Spain is before dinner even. I met the family I will be staying with for the next three months at the train station then from there we walked to their (my?) house. I got a shower and washed all of the grubby germs of traveling off then I went to bed. Oh I had my first Spanish tortilla. It was a amazing.

The next day the mother of the house showed me around town. We went to many different places, we just did a loop of the city. It was nice. This place is beautiful and I will definitely have a lot of adventures while I'm here for the next three months. I have some pictures, yes.

The beaches are beautiful here, the people are nice, my host family is amazing and welcoming.. It's everything I could have hoped for as a traveling giraffe. I don't even feel like I'm going to get mugged here. It's a pretty solid feeling. Not that I have any cash on me. I'm very angry, I meant to get cash out from my card on the machine but the banks aren't open on the weekends. That's probably good though, the ice cream and food here is amazing. I could easily blow my money if I didn't pay attention.

I went to the lighthouse today. The weather was wonderful and sunny but quite breezy. I was also climbing a cliff so that might have been part of the reason.

I have been fully embracing the culture. I nap during siesta (which is a two hour break in the day where there is a lot of food and napping) even though my host family doesn't usually nap. Which is weird, because it's their culture's thing. Oh well, I'm not complaining. I get to nap. And ya'll know how much I love to nap. Which is, let me reiterate, a lot. I have been getting my full amounts sleep which never seems to be enough. I went out last night to kind of scope out the night scene and ended up leaving just as the party was about to start. The people of Spain live very late lives. They are frickin' owls! They start partying and going out at 2 am. YES 2 AM! But that wasn't for me. I called it a night at 1. Then I went home and went to bed. It was lovely.

I've been having weird dreams lately. Maybe it's my subconscious freaking out because of all of these cultural changes. Let me tell you, there has been a lot. My host mom got mad at me for not wearing shoes and socks my first night. Not really mad, but just told me to go put shoes on because the floor was cold. But, I wasn't cold. It's actually quite warm here. At least warmer than the PNW. There its like the arctic's twisted twin cousin. Oh, the sun's out maybe it's warm today? False. It's actually just above freezing, the jokes on you!!

The nights have been great here. And so have the days. My host family is so welcoming. I live with a mother, a dog, and a daughter. The mom has three other daughters, two of which live in Santander and the other lives in Costa Rica. But the other two daughters that don't live with us are very nice. They speak broken English (the mother speaks none at all) and one took me to Santander's library yesterday. I plan on getting a library card so I can start reading in Spanish. Won't that be exciting, I'll be learning the language even quicker than I already am.

I start classes at the university here, tomorrow. They are all language courses so that's another way for me to start comprehending more. Although, my host mom literally speaks a million words a minute. If you typed how fast she talked you would have carpal tunnel in a matter of minutes.

Well, it's naptime. You know what that means.

Until we talk next.

Daire.
